I am an interdisciplinary artist and aspiring character designer that enjoys creating art that expresses my own identity and ideations. I also work as a freelance digital designer that takes pride in executing the artistic visions and ideas of others. I want to use my creative abilities as an agent for social change. I believe that art can be used as a means to educate, empower and inspire! The meaning of my artwork is one that is personal and exudes self expression. Concepts relating to black culture and our unique features are all woven into my artwork. My imagination and connection with reality is what guides the vision of my work. I tell stories through my art, by designing characters. I create characters that differ drastically in style but share common features. They also exist to represent a multitude of narratives. My drawing styles derive from my lifelong dream of wanting to create my own cartoon series revolving around characters of color. Sketching and doodling my favorite cartoon characters with brown skin was a hobby of mine growing up. Upon reflection I understand how representation is crucial in the animation industry but I now see it is a NECESSARY form of representation for my minority peers and others interested in the industry. I continue to notice that there has been a lack of diversity in graphic media as a whole. As I have grown as an artist and explored new styles I continue to implement positive messages and the beauty of my culture into my work! Animation is a very digestible form of art that is easy for all audiences to comprehend. I want unseen people to feel seen, identify and relate to my work. I hope to create art that inspires people, gives them a sense of pride and allows them to feel represented in all forms of media.
